The talks between the leaders of the USA and Russia lasted for over an hour and a half.

On Wednesday, April 29th, US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian leader Volodymyr Putin. The initiator of the call was the head of the Kremlin, and the main topic of discussion was the war in Ukraine.
TSN.ua has gathered all the known details of the negotiations between the presidents of the USA and Russia.
“I spoke about Ukraine, I spoke a little about Iran. I spoke about a few different things. Mostly about Ukraine, and we had a very good conversation,” Donald Trump commented to journalists at the White House about his talks with Putin.
The Russian president sent his aide, Yuri Ushakov, to the propaganda media, who very briefly summarized the content of the over one-and-a-half-hour conversation between the leaders of the USA and Russia.
On Putin’s “Successes” in the War
The Russian dictator traditionally boasted about the “successes” of his army on the front lines and tried to convince his interlocutor that the Kremlin would achieve the so-called “goals of the special military operation.” Putin assured that Russian troops were supposedly “pressing the enemy.”
Likely, these words from the head of the Kremlin had such an impact on Donald Trump that during his communication with journalists, he suddenly stated that “Ukraine has been defeated from a military point of view.” However, as it turned out, the American president meant not Ukraine, but Iran, as he immediately recalled “159 ships lying at the bottom” – these are precisely the words Trump constantly uses, emphasizing the complete defeat of the Iranian regime.
During the conversation with Trump, Putin once again tried to accuse Ukraine of using “terrorist methods” during Ukrainian attacks on strategic objects on the territory of the Russian Federation, while remaining silent about the massive shelling of Ukrainian cities by the Russian army.
At the same time, the head of the Kremlin did not abandon the goals announced before the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but despite fabricated “successes” on the front lines, he agreed to achieve them through negotiations.
“The goals of the ‘special military operation’ will be achieved; the Russian Federation would prefer to do so through negotiations,” his aide Ushakov quoted Putin as saying.
On Putin’s Readiness for a Peace Agreement
For some reason, Donald Trump concluded from the conversation with the Russian president that Putin is ready to end the war and conclude a peace agreement.
According to him, a solution regarding the peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine will be found relatively quickly.
“I think we’ll find a solution relatively quickly, I hope. I think you’d like to see a solution. I’m telling you this for sure, and it’s good,” he added.
He added that Putin had allegedly been ready to conclude an agreement “some time ago,” but he was prevented from doing so.
“I think some people made it more difficult for him to make a deal,” the American president said.
Donald Trump also refused Putin’s mediation in the nuclear deal with Iran, emphasizing that “it would be better if he joined in ending the war with Ukraine.”
On a Ceasefire by May 9th
According to Yuri Ushakov, Putin took the initiative to declare a ceasefire for the celebration of the so-called “Victory Day” on May 9th, and Donald Trump allegedly supported this proposal.
At the same time, Donald Trump himself, in a conversation with journalists at the White House, stated that he, not Putin, was the initiator of the ceasefire.
“I offered Putin a small ceasefire. I think he might go for it,” Trump said.
What Ukraine Says About the “Ceasefire”
The initiative for a one-day ceasefire on May 9th has already been commented on by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the NSDC, believes that this idea from the Kremlin is purely pragmatic.
According to him, Putin is trying to present it as a “gesture of goodwill,” although in reality, he is simply afraid for his own safety during the festive events.
“It’s ridiculous, and it has absolutely nothing to do with approaching the end of the war. Let him just end the war, cease fire, and that’s it. But no, he is worried about his propaganda event because he cannot guarantee any security even in Moscow,” Kovalenko emphasized.
We remind you that earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that he was continuing negotiations with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Volodymyr Putin to stop the “bloody war” in Ukraine.
