Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov complained that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could have simply delivered the letter to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, rather than announcing it publicly.
He made these remarks in an interview with propagandists.
“Zelensky’s open letter to Putin was shown through the established procedure. We are officials, we do everything according to the established procedure. If Zelensky wanted to send a letter to Putin, he could have just done it, instead of announcing it. If you want to send a letter, send it. If you use a megaphone, don’t call it a letter,” Peskov said.
Recall, President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote an open letter to Putin and proposed a meeting to end the war.
This became known from the website of the Office of the President, where the letter was published.
In it, the Ukrainian president proposes to end the war and hold a meeting with Putin. According to him, there are countries ready to host this meeting, including Switzerland, Turkey, and Arab countries.
“The front line now is the line from which diplomacy should begin,” Zelensky wrote.
The president proposes a format for the future meeting on ending the war: first Ukraine and Russia, then other participants – primarily Europe and the USA for security guarantees.
Putin rejected the proposal. However, he read the letter twice – the dictator himself said this at the economic forum in St. Petersburg. He was most struck, by the way, by the mention of age, so he spoke about it first. He claimed that the main thing is not numbers, but capability.
Putin was also bothered by Zelensky mentioning his time in power in the letter. However, he sees no point in meeting with Zelensky at this time. The need, allegedly, is only for Ukraine – to stop Russia’s “advance.” And during his speech, he addressed his army with a call to continue working.
