On the border of Ukraine with Poland, the Eurodac system has been launched, enabling the registration of biometric data of foreigners. This new mechanism is intended to enhance migration control and combat cross-border crime.
A new system, Eurodac, has been implemented at the Ukrainian-Polish border. It will be utilized for recording foreigners’ biometric information. Police officers and border guards already have access to it. Through this new system, Poland aims to address illegal migration and transnational criminal activities.
This was announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland.
The Eurodac foreigner verification system: what Ukrainians traveling through Poland need to know
The Eurodac system collects not only biometric data but also alphanumeric information, such as passport numbers and details of travel documents.
Tomasz Szymański, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland, stated that the updated platform facilitates data exchange among EU countries.
“This solution allows for more effective identification of individuals attempting to cross borders illegally, ensuring better cooperation between services and enhanced security,” added Tomasz Szymański.
The introduction of the Eurodac verification system represents another step by the EU towards implementing large-scale IT security systems. Since October 2025, Poland has been operating the Entry/Exit System (EES), which records the biometric data of third-country nationals crossing the Schengen Area.
The EES is now operational at all border crossings with Poland. Border guards have successfully prevented the entry of 11,000 foreigners who did not meet the admission criteria.
Within the European Union, Poland remains a leader in the quality of biometric data registration.
Ukrainians in Poland – latest news:
As a reminder, life in Poland often surprises Ukrainians due to the peculiar characteristics of local supermarkets. The biggest culinary shock for a Ukrainian woman who shared her impressions was the unusual combinations of herring marinades – with sour cream, apple, or mustard. Additionally, she encountered semi-finished products for borscht in the form of “ready red water” and special noodles.
Furthermore, she was surprised by the popular “pack within a pack” format, for instance, nine small packs of chips in one large one, and a vast assortment of cosmetic miniatures in household sections.
At the same time, certain local services genuinely impressed the young woman. In particular, she was struck by the bread-slicing machines installed directly in the aisles for self-service slicing and photo printing services in cosmetic stores.
However, it is important for Ukrainians to be aware of the updated Eurodac identification system, which strengthens the country’s security controls. This platform houses a next-generation database for registering the biometric details of foreigners seeking asylum, those apprehended during illegal border crossings, or individuals residing in the EU without legal status.
For more precise verification, the system collects alphanumeric data, fingerprints, and digital facial images, with biometric checks now extended to children aged 6 and above.
