The Kremlin has issued new accusations against the US after the 2025 Alaska talks with Trump.

The summit in Alaska took place back in August 2025, but it has recently regained public attention. The Kremlin is promoting a new version of events following the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russia’s “führer” Vladimir Putin.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov shifted the blame to Washington for the lack of a written agreement after the bilateral summit in Anchorage on August 15, 2025. He boldly called US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that the US and Russia did not conclude an agreement in Alaska but only discussed proposals “tactless.”
According to him, “the assertions about the absence of an agreement are quite tactless” after US representatives allegedly presented their proposals, and Russia agreed to them. At the same time, Lavrov brazenly added, Rubio’s statement “raises another issue.”
Lavrov’s statements claim that the United States, not Russia, is responsible for the lack of agreement at the Alaska summit and the stalling of peace efforts since then, likely intending to do so without directly contradicting the statements of the US Secretary of State.
“Rubio’s statement contradicts the Kremlin’s frequent rhetorical lines that refer to the existence of a supposed ‘Spirit of Anchorage’ or ‘Alaska Accords’ to promote narratives about Russia’s readiness for negotiations. Although the summit concluded without the planned dinner and joint press conference and did not result in any written agreement or joint statement,” emphasized the Institute’s analysts.
Alaska Summit — US and Russian Disagreements
Recently, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the countries **did not reach any agreement** on ending the war during the talks in Anchorage. He emphasized that it was only a “proposal,” but the parties did not reach an accord.
Meanwhile, Sergey Lavrov did not appreciate such a statement from his US counterpart and **exploded with a statement about the meeting** between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Anchorage. According to him, “the fact remains the fact,” as Washington’s proposals, accepted by Moscow, were allegedly discussed in Alaska.
