The group “Hezbollah” rejected the framework agreement signed by Lebanon and Israel with US mediation on June 26.
Reuters reports this.
The leader of “Hezbollah”, Naim Qassem, called the agreement “capitulation to Israel” and “crossing all red lines.”
The agreement signed by representatives of Israel and Lebanon includes provisions for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory on condition of disarmament of the “Hezbollah” group.
“We did not leave the battlefield in the most difficult circumstances and we will not leave it,” – stated the leader of “Hezbollah”.
Qassem stated that the basis for ending the conflict should be the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the USA, reached at the beginning of this month, which guarantees Lebanon’s territorial integrity, not the Washington agreement of Friday.
With US mediation, the ambassadors of Lebanon and Israel signed a framework agreement on June 26, which was described as “the first step towards peace” after months of conflict between the two states.
The US State Department noted that the framework agreement launches the process of eliminating “Hezbollah”. It will also allow Lebanon to regain control over territories occupied by Israeli troops during the confrontation with the group.
On June 19, Israel and the “Hezbollah” group, which operates in Lebanon, agreed on a ceasefire.
On June 4, representatives of Lebanon and Israel, following negotiations in the USA that lasted on June 2 and 3, agreed to implement a ceasefire. The parties also declared the absence of hostile intentions towards each other and expressed readiness to continue the negotiation process. “Hezbollah” has not yet officially commented on this statement.
On June 6, Israel launched an air strike on southern Lebanon. Nine people died as a result of the attack.
On June 15, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israeli troops would remain in the areas they control in southern Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip, despite the peace agreement between the US and Iran.
