Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church (Vladimir Gundyaev), who has consistently justified Russian aggression against Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, has decided to go further and has published a book dedicated to the “metaphysics of war.”
According to The Moscow Times, the new publication, titled “War. Beyond Visible Causes and Consequences,” effectively offers a spiritual and philosophical justification for the war, the victory in which is described as Russia’s “special mission.”
According to the publication, in his book, the head of the ROC asserts that the outcome of wars “is determined by God,” and “he who is on the side of light” wins.
The annotation also states that the war has “redemptive significance,” is linked to “metaphysical boundaries and Russia’s goal-setting,” and includes reflections on the “racial aspect of war.”
The deranged author of this pseudo-religious book argues that the Russian people “have the strength to win” and should not “shirk their historical duty to be victors.” He proposes viewing the concepts of sacrifice, patriotism, feat, and victory through a “special spiritual” lens.
The Moscow Times recalls that Kirill is one of the most active public religious supporters of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
At various times, he cynically stated that Russian occupiers in Ukraine do not violate the commandment “Thou shalt not kill,” called Vladimir Putin an “example of a good Christian,” urged people to thank God for his reign, and assured participants in the war in Ukraine that death on the battlefield would bring them salvation.
Due to his support for Russian aggression, European Union countries have repeatedly raised the issue of imposing personal sanctions against the head of the ROC, but no such decision has yet been made.
Recall that the Kremlin seems to have decided to definitively solidify President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin’s status not just as an unchangeable head of state, but as a “God-chosen” ruler. Further confirmation of this was the statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who essentially explained Putin’s rise to power not by political processes, but by “divine design.”
