The possibility of a tactical nuclear strike by the Russian Federation remains, but at this stage, the Kremlin is primarily using this topic for intimidation due to setbacks on the front lines.

Russian dictator Putin has once again resorted to nuclear threats, which Ukrainians have heard many times during the full-scale invasion.
But each time, Ukrainians discuss how realistic these threats might be, as anything can be expected from Russia. The deputy commander of the Third Assault Corps, Lieutenant Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Maksym Zhorin, assessed whether Putin is capable of pressing the “red” button.
Zhorin does not rule out that a tactical nuclear strike on Ukraine is possible. He assumes that such a plan has been on Putin’s table since the very beginning of the full-scale war.
However, as of today, Zhorin calls the talk of a nuclear strike “further threats.”
“The Russian army is suffering huge losses, and any minimal advance is currently extremely difficult. Not receiving the desired results on the battlefield, the Russian Federation is trying to blackmail with what it can,” the officer concluded.
Recall that today, May 12, Putin boasted about the testing of “Sarmat” missiles and reminded that the “Yars” ballistic missile can be equipped with nuclear warheads.
