Iran has agreed to dispose of its highly enriched uranium as part of ongoing negotiations with the United States towards a peace accord.
This information was reported by CBS News, citing a senior official from the Trump administration.
According to the official, the finalized agreement would also involve Iran unblocking the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the US lifting its blockade of this waterway, alongside US concessions on sanction relief if Iran agrees to compromises on the uranium enrichment issue.
He added that the finalization of the agreement’s details is still in progress, noting that Iran seems more inclined towards compromise than before the commencement of military campaigns.
The official emphasized that the deal would not entail any regime change, pointing out that the Trump administration would engage with the existing Iranian government.
Against this backdrop, Donald Trump’s gesture of sharing a statement from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on his social media platform Truth Social, assuring that his country is not seeking nuclear weapons, became notable.
Concurrently, the Iranian agency Tasnim reports that not all issues were resolved during the talks, particularly concerning the return of Iran’s frozen assets.
Consequently, the agreement could still fall through, with Iran stating it will not compromise on its fundamental principles.
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump previously stated that any agreement with Iran depends solely on his decision and asserted that Washington would not rush the negotiations.
