The command of “Skala” on deaths and violence in the regiment

The command of the “Skala” assault regiment refused to comment on the facts of violence and the use of weapons against servicemen who attempted to leave the military unit without authorization.

The command informed about this in a comment to “Slidstvo.Info”.

“Skala” refused to comment on violence against fighters: what they answered

In response to an official request from “Slidstvo.Info” journalists, military officials cited the protection of national security and the absence of legal grounds for providing data.

Journalists wanted to get answers to questions regarding three high-profile incidents, including the murder of mobilized soldier Oleksandr Zavalov and the injury of Arkadiy Kukshin.

However, the unit’s command rejected the request to clarify the circumstances of the fighter’s death, report on the existence of official investigations, or provide information on the terms and positions held by the individuals involved in the investigation – Oleksandr Zavalov, Maksym Cherevan, and Arkadiy Kukshin.

“The specified information is restricted access information, as it contains personal data, and may also contain official information, disclosure of which could harm the interests of national security, state defense, or the rights and legitimate interests of third parties,” the response to the request states.

Recall, the tragedy with Oleksandr Zavalov occurred on May 20 in the center of one of the villages in the Kirovohrad region. The man was brought to the CNAP under armed escort to restore his lost passport.

According to the investigation, when Zavalov tried to escape through the toilet window, escort soldier Maksym Cherevan fired four shots at him from an assault rifle. One of the wounds turned out to be fatal.

Another person involved in the case, Arkadiy Kukshin, sustained gunshot wounds while fleeing from a training ground in the Sumy region when he came under fire from a “Skala” patrol. A bullet hit the man in the leg, and shrapnel injured his arm. Kukshin managed to break away from his pursuers and secretly remove the bullet with the help of a medic. Later, he illegally crossed the state border and is currently in Europe.

After the investigation was made public, the State Bureau of Investigation initiated criminal proceedings based on Kukshin’s statement regarding the abuse of power or official authority by a military official.

Abuse in the “Skala” regiment: several known cases

Recall that “Slidstvo.Info” investigative journalists published facts of cruel treatment, mutilation, and murder of servicemen in the rear of the scandalous “Skala” assault regiment.

According to the investigation, the unit commanders organize hunts with the use of weapons for soldiers who try to escape from abuse and lack of medical care. In particular, in the village of Oleksandrivka, an escort soldier shot and killed mobilized soldier Oleksandr Zavalov during an escape attempt, after which he bled to death.

Another soldier, Arkadiy Kukshin, mobilized with violations, sustained two gunshot wounds from a patrol while fleeing from the training ground and was forced to have surgery on his leg secretly and leave the country.

Also, a former instructor of the unit spoke about systematic beatings of mobilized soldiers, including former prisoners, and falsification of injuries at training grounds. He himself suffered severe injuries from the actions of a relative of the training ground commander and a subsequent attack in Dnipro, however, law enforcement agencies for a long time did not open criminal proceedings based on his statements.
