A pleasure boat, the “Emperor Atila,” carrying 115 people, including children, caught fire off the coast of the Turkish city of Fethiye in the Mugla province.
This was reported by the Turkish publication TRT Haber.
The blaze ignited near Katranci Bay during a day trip. The cause of the ignition has not yet been determined, but the flames spread rapidly throughout the vessel.
Passengers, including women and children, had to don life jackets and jump into the sea to escape the inferno.
Upon receiving the alert, units from the coast guard, marine police, and the Directorate General of Coastal Safety were dispatched to the scene. Rescuers successfully evacuated all 115 individuals, including crew members.
Some passengers were transported to the coast guard piers in the Gocek and Karagozler districts. Two individuals suffered from smoke inhalation and were taken to the hospital.
Children on board were medically examined as a precautionary measure.
The fire was extinguished, but the vessel sustained significant damage and is no longer operational. Plans are in place to tow it ashore.
An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the ignition.
For reference, a popular tourist spot in China recently experienced a dangerous rockfall, forcing hundreds to flee.
