The leader of the right-wing Reform UK party in Great Britain, Nigel Farage, has been re-elected to the country’s parliament in a by-election in the town of Clacton. He is being investigated by the parliamentary standards watchdog over undeclared benefits.

This is reported by the BBC.

The by-election in Clacton began in July when Nigel Farage resigned as a Member of Parliament for Great Britain.

Farage resigned amid an investigation against him by the British parliamentary standards watchdog over undeclared security and housing services received from an ally of Farage. The parliamentary standards committee is also already investigating Farage for failing to declare receipt of £5 million in cryptocurrency from Christopher Harbourn of Thailand.

The BBC also reports that the London police are investigating part of Nigel Farage’s undeclared benefits.

Representatives from other parties in Clacton refused to participate in the parliamentary by-election. Farage’s only opponent was “Count Binface” – British comedian Jonathan David Harvey, who wears a bin on his head.

Nigel Farage received 63.3% of the voters’ ballots in the Clacton election and has officially been re-elected to the UK Parliament.

Farage was not present at the results announcement in Clacton. He stated that the local police had allegedly recommended he not attend the event. According to the BBC, the police did not provide such recommendations to any of the candidates.

Representatives from other parties in the UK Parliament have stated that Nigel Farage’s “re-election” does not resolve the issues regarding his undeclared benefits and assets.

The head of the ruling Labour Party, Bridget Philpott, stated that the re-election “does not clear” Farage’s name. Liberal Democrat spokesperson Lisa Smart called for the investigation into Farage to be resumed. “Initiating a vanity by-election was a blatant attempt to evade accountability,” said Lisa Smart.

Nigel Farage denies all accusations.

Reform UK is a right-wing and pro-Russian British party. It opposed COVID-19 lockdown measures and supported US President Trump during the 2024 campaign. In 2024, it became known that Elon Musk donated $100 million to the Reform UK party. The party leader, Nigel Farage, stated that he “knows nothing” about this donation amount from Musk.
