The unified world boxing champion, who recently announced he was relinquishing all his heavyweight titles, and the first vice-president of the football club “Polissya” (Zhytomyr), Oleksandr Usyk, has declared his lack of intention to participate in presidential elections in Ukraine.
“If I had such an idea, I think more people would have voted for me, but I will not run for president of Ukraine,” Usyk stated in an interview published on the club’s YouTube channel on Saturday, commenting on the results of a sociological survey according to which 6% of Ukrainians would be ready to vote for him if he ran for president of Ukraine.
He also spoke about his recent meeting with US President Donald Trump.
“It was a very cool meeting, a sporting, international, non-political one. We talked about old boxers from the 60s-70s, about the current generation. He asked: you beat such big guys, right? I said, well, yes. But (Trump says – IF-U) you’re not that big! And I said: size doesn’t matter, because if size mattered, the king of beasts would be an elephant. He laughed at this and said: yes, cool,” Usyk recounted.
At the same time, he mentioned that he attended the World Football Championship, but did not happen to cross paths with Trump there: “He was flying somewhere by plane or helicopter, but I didn’t see him face-to-face this time.”
