Occupying forces are accumulating personnel and equipment to prepare for more active offensive actions in the direction of Lyman, northeast of Sloviansk.

Front in Sumy Oblast
The day before, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed the alleged capture of Khrapivshchyna, northeast of Sumy. However, the Ukrainian Kursk group of forces refuted this information, emphasizing that the settlement remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On the same day, the Russian Northern group of forces published a map on which it designated Nova Sich, northeast of the city of Sumy, as “captured.” At the same time, ISW analysts found no confirmation of the advance of Russian troops to this settlement.
Situation in Kharkiv Oblast
Russian forces continued offensive operations in the northern Kharkiv Oblast on August 28 and 29, but did not advance. In another section of the front, Russian sources reported the continuation of the offensive in the direction of Velykyi Burluk. However, even here, ISW did not record evidence of territorial gains by the Russian army.
Ukrainian forces counterattacked in both directions – in the Kupyansk and Borova directions. On August 29, Russian military bloggers and a source associated with the Russian Western group of forces reported on the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Dvorichna, northeast of Kupyansk.
Also, according to Russian sources, Ukrainian military personnel counterattacked near Ridkodub, Nove, and Katerynivka – settlements southeast of Borova.

Russia is preparing a new offensive in the Lyman direction
On August 28 and 29, Russian forces continued offensive actions in the Sloviansk direction, but could not advance. At the same time, a Russian source associated with the Russian Western group of forces reported on counterattacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Dibrova and Starodubivka, east of Sloviansk.
Russia, meanwhile, is building up forces for a future offensive in the Lyman direction. According to a spokesperson for a Ukrainian brigade operating in the Sloviansk direction, the occupiers are accumulating personnel and equipment there.
At the same time, foreign recruits – mainly from Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia – are forming an increasing proportion of Russian forces. Currently, they may constitute about 30% of the Russian personnel in this direction. According to a Ukrainian serviceman, despite the buildup of forces, foreign and Russian recruits remain insufficiently trained.
Russian forces are also concentrating strikes on Ukrainian logistics and crossings over the Oskil and Siverskyi Donets rivers. These actions are likely part of the preparation for a future larger-scale offensive.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding back the Russian offensive near Kostiantynivka
On August 28 and 29, Russian forces attacked in the tactical area of Kostiantynivka-Druzhkivka, but did not achieve advancement. Ukrainian military personnel conducted counterattacks and held back the occupiers’ offensive.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have advanced in the direction of Dobropillia
Ukrainian military personnel recently resumed advancement in the direction of Dobropillia. Geolocated footage released on August 29 confirms the advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of Dorozhnie, southeast of the city.
In addition, Ukrainian forces likely hold positions or are advancing west and south of Novyi Donbas. Geolocated videos from August 28 and 29 confirm the presence of Ukrainian military personnel in this area, which contradicts the statements of the Russian side.
At the same time, on August 29, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the alleged capture of Novoandriivka, northeast of Dobropillia. There is currently no independent confirmation of this statement.
No ground attacks in the Pokrovsk direction
On August 29, neither the Ukrainian nor the Russian sides reported ground combat operations in the Pokrovsk direction.
At the same time, on August 28 and 29, Russian forces continued offensive operations in the Novopavlivka and Oleksandrivka directions, but did not achieve confirmed advancement.
We remind you that, according to the latest data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the most intense fighting in the past day occurred in the Kostiantynivka direction.
