Ukraine declares a ceasefire starting at 00:00 on the night of May 5-6 and will act reciprocally. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as of May 4, Ukraine had not received any official requests regarding the modalities of the cessation of hostilities, which were announced on Russian social networks.
“We believe that human life is of incomparably greater value than the ‘celebration’ of any anniversary. In this regard, we are announcing a ceasefire, starting at 00:00 on the night of May 5-6. It is realistic to ensure that silence comes by the time available until this moment. We will act reciprocally, starting from the indicated moment. It is time for Russian leaders to take real steps to end their war, especially if the Russian Ministry of Defense believes that they will not hold a parade in Moscow without Ukraine’s goodwill,” the president’s message reads.
The day before, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced an “armistice” from May 8 to May 9. The department stated that if it were violated by Kyiv, the Russian military would launch a massive retaliatory missile strike on the capital’s center.
