Against the backdrop of discussions about the threat from the northern and northeastern directions, diplomat Roman Bezsmertny assessed the real military strength of the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, and the Kremlin’s plans. According to him, there can be no trust in the Belarusian dictator, as he does not control his words and only says what he is ordered to say by the Kremlin.

He stated this in an interview with the program “Studio Zakhid.”

However, the diplomat is convinced that Lukashenko himself does not have the strength to wage war against Ukraine. In addition to the lack of resources, there is a huge internal societal resistance — 83 percent of Belarusians are categorically against participation in the war.

“Lukashenko will twist and turn, hedge, say something, and follow the Kremlin’s instructions, but he will not dare to throw conscripts into battle, because this army will scatter into the Belarusian forests faster than it reaches its deployment point,” Bezsmertny stated.

He added that the Belarusian special operations forces are small in number, lack combat experience, individual equipment, and appropriate technology. The army, armed to the teeth, is designed solely for war against its own people and is incapable of fighting against such a strong adversary as Ukraine. Bezsmertny also urged not to believe the maneuvers with border repeaters, as turning them on or off is a matter of seconds.

How many troops Russia can gather in the northern direction

Despite Minsk’s inability, Russia can still use this direction. Currently, there are about 120,000 Russian troops stationed from Leningrad to the northern borders of Ukraine. This grouping is not fully staffed, but the Russian Federation is capable of reinforcing it.

“If we consider the troop grouping that is in this direction from the Russian side, then, taking a month’s timeframe, they can assemble a grouping of around 200,000 in this direction. But a month is not so little as not to be noticed. It would take at least two months to create a combat-ready grouping,” the diplomat noted.

Bezsmertny emphasized that Belarus is a springboard for attacks not only on Ukraine but also on the Baltic states, Scandinavia, and Central Europe. This direction remains very dangerous due to sabotage activities and the deployment of powerful antennas and electronic warfare systems in Kaliningrad and the Brest region, which provide communication with strategic bombers and submarines.

An attempt to break through from the Belarusian side towards Kyiv, Chernihiv, Rivne, or Lviv would be a huge problem for the enemy. The Ukrainian border is reliably fortified, and in some places, the territory itself is simply impassable.

“Out of 12 crossings, 8 are currently simply mined, so much so that birds sometimes get blown up there, others are partially controlled by troops. The two that could be used are completely blocked,” the diplomat concluded.

Bezsmertny summarized that moving towards Ukraine from the north requires immense courage. However, since the Russian leadership is capable of making absolutely idiotic decisions, Ukrainians must be prepared for anything and not take risks.

Threat from Belarus — latest news

We remind you that **Alexander Lukashenko arrived at Putin’s residence in Valdai on Friday, June 26, for negotiations**. As noted by The Moscow Times, the meeting between the Russian and Belarusian dictators took place in an extremely tense context.

The day before, on Thursday, June 25, Lukashenko publicly asked Russian Ambassador Boris Gryzlov not to “drag” Belarus into the war with Ukraine, and for the first time openly confirmed that the Kremlin was pressuring Minsk to involve it more actively in combat operations.
