FIFA has officially launched disciplinary proceedings against the Football Association of Argentina (AFA) and a number of players following incidents at the 2026 World Cup. This was reported by Reuters.
One of the episodes that the disciplinary committee will review was the display of a banner “Las Malvinas son Argentinas” (“The Falkland Islands are Argentinian”) after Argentina’s victory over England in the tournament semi-final.
After the final whistle, defender Lisandro Martinez and midfielder Giovani Lo Celso came onto the field with a banner asserting Argentina’s sovereignty over the Falkland (Malvinas) Islands.
