The Embassy of Ukraine in Poland has expressed profound indignation regarding a recent act of vandalism against a Ukrainian memorial site in the Białystok forest near the village of Lisy in the Lublin Voivodeship.

This was announced by the Ukrainian embassy on Facebook.

According to information received by the embassy, unknown individuals damaged a site dedicated to honoring fallen Ukrainian soldiers.

The embassy emphasized that any acts of destruction or desecration of memorial sites are unacceptable and contradict European standards and Christian values.

“Of particular concern is the fact that this incident occurs amidst a rise in expressions of hostility towards Ukrainians in Poland, including reports of acts of aggression and attacks on Ukrainian citizens. Any attempts to translate historical disputes into vandalism, intimidation, or animosity against contemporary Ukraine and Ukrainians are dangerous and must receive due legal assessment,” the embassy’s statement reads.

In April 2026, a new plaque was installed in Poland on the mass grave of UPA participants in Monastyrka, with its content significantly differing from the previous version.

The new plaque bears an inscription: “Mass grave of Ukrainians, participants of the UPA, responsible for terror and genocide against the defenseless Polish, Ukrainian, and Jewish populations. Lord God, have mercy on them and do not count against them the terrible deeds they committed against their brothers.”
