Russia may have once again promised North Korea certain benefits in exchange for sending a new group of military personnel.

North Korean soldiers may once again join the combat operations on Russia’s side, particularly in assault operations against Ukraine.
This opinion was expressed by military expert Ivan Stupak, commenting on a video of joint exercises between the DPRK and RF military, as reported by UNIAN.
“Russia and North Korea have a taste of success. In ’24, North Korea helped them very effectively, sending its special forces. We initially underestimated them. But they truly proved to be motivated, not surrendering. They indeed caused us trouble and even learned to shoot down our drones by employing a strategy where one lures, and two shoot,” noted Stupak.
According to the expert, this is what convinced Moscow and Pyongyang of the effectiveness of such interaction.
“All this led to the RF and DPRK starting to consider such cooperation as positive and, consequently, possible to continue,” said Stupak.
He also suggested that Russia has likely again promised North Korea certain benefits in exchange for sending a new group of special forces.
The expert drew attention to the fact that after intense fighting in the Kursk region, the Russian army did not use DPRK military personnel in infantry assaults directly against Ukraine.
“As a possibility, they could become the tip of the spear that pushes into the Chernihiv region. Regarding the Chernihiv region – there is a threat, to occupy 100-200 sq km and create tension. As an option, they might appear there,” the expert noted.
At the same time, Stupak emphasized that over the past few years, Ukrainian troops have significantly improved their tactics for using drones.
“But our troops over these two years have also honed their strategies for drone use considerably. Therefore, it won’t be an easy walk for North Korean soldiers now. Because nearly 6,000 Ukrainian drones, FPV drones, take to the air daily. So, this strategy of theirs, how they shot down those drones, won’t be effective anymore,” the expert stated.
Responding to the question of whether DPRK military personnel could be deployed to other sectors of the front, Stupak identified the northern directions as most probable.
“From the perspective of the Russian command, they could be used in the Chernihiv region. Possibly, a bit in the Sumy or Kharkiv regions. But to send them into assaults somewhere in Donetsk… There are currently 720,000 Russian troops in Ukraine. It seems to me that it would be more expedient to use them somewhere in a new direction. But of course, everything depends on the Russian command – whatever they imagine,” Stupak declared.
Commenting on the video where North Korean soldiers are with Russians, the expert drew attention to the filming location.
“They are standing in a dugout, it’s unclear in which region, at what time it was filmed. But there’s a feeling that if they are standing in a dugout, it’s unlikely to be a relaxed region. That is, it’s not Vladivostok or Magadan, but something maximally close to the line of contact. Perhaps 100-20 kilometers away, where safety measures still need to be observed,” the expert added.
Earlier, it was reported that North Korea had significantly escalated its participation in Russia’s war against Ukraine by transferring not only a new batch of over 100 ballistic missiles to the RF but also specialized missile units.
We previously informed that Russia might deploy a North Korean missile unit in the Voronezh region, equipped with six launchers and approximately 120 KN-23 ballistic missiles.
